I am a colleague and fellow alumni of the CIIS Drama Therapy program. Marissa was the essence of kindness, patience, consideration, creativity, and brilliance. She was the bright future of the Drama Therapy field. I cannot fathom why such a truly wonderful soul was taken so soon when she had been such a blessing to many and would have blessed many more with her numerous gifts and talents. My heart is with her loved ones in this tragic time and I will be praying for their comfort and peace. I offer my deepest condolences.
Goodbye for now Marissa! You have brought so much light to this troubled world.
The radiance that is Marissa has us all reaching out and in toward each other. When Marissa gave you her one-of-a-kind hug, her energy for transformative love did wonders— was a wordless transmission of healing. I feel her arms around us all now, gathering in our love for her as a warm and mighty remembrance of a source greater than human cleverness. Her gifts as a poet walked hand in hand with her fierce and wise actions toward a beloved community of justice. With sympathy for your and our feelings of loss of Marissa’s closest circles of friends and family at this time.

My heart goes out to her family. I was Marissa’s third-grade teacher. She had such a sweet spirit, and I always thought she would do great things. May God comfort her family and friends. You are in my prayers. ?????

Extending loving sympathy to Marissa’s family and those closest to her. I first got to know Marissa as my student in the graduate program in the Drama Therapy Program at CIIS (which I direct). She was among the finest students I have ever taught in over 30 years. Her depth, dedication, kindness, creativity, and thoughtfulness were unsurpassed. Even as a young grad student, she possessed a rare wisdom. Her acting and writing were brilliant. I watched her become a skillful clinician and then clinical director. Over the past few years I got to know her more fully when she became a post-graduate trainee with me. Given my deep respect and admiration for her, I hired her as an adjunct faculty and academic advisor in our program in 2019. Students quickly loved her. In fact, everyone loved Marissa. I see a comment by Marissa’s 3rd grade teacher here, remembering Marissa as a sweet spirit and feeling she’d make a difference in the world. I knew Marissa much later in her life, and she maintained that loving spirit, and indeed made a difference in the world. She was fiercely committed to working with youth, and to social justice. I was heartbroken by her death. We will find ways to keep her memory and legacy alive in our program and in the field of drama therapy.
I remember first meeting Marissa through her sister Janice at Carsons . She had a humble spirit and that smile. To the family and friends know she will be smiling down on you all . Her smile brings Joy and Peace .
Marissa truly will be missed !!!!
