Retired Sergeant James Ronnie Pierce, laid down his working tools on December 14, 2023 at Jackson Madison General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee surrounded by family. Ronnie, as he was known to many in the Dyersburg and Newbern, Tennessee area, was born January 2, 1947 to Jim Willis Pierce and Bertha Lee (Cooper) Pierce Williams and proudly attended Bruce High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army for service in the Vietnam War. In the military, Ronnie earned several rankings for marksmanship including the L.R.R. P. (Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol), Army Ranger for the 4th Infantry Division E Company 3rd Battalion and he had many amazing stories of his time in Vietnam and abroad.

The U.S. Army recognized Ronnie for his honorable service with a Purple Heart. Ronnie often spoke about his service experiences and time in the Army often reminding non-military of the impact of that valor and service including proudly marching in parades with other veterans along with activity with the Dyersburg VFW 1972.

After the war, Ronnie married Annie Virginia (Chaney) Pierce on June 30, 1972 beginning a 51-year marriage. Together, they built a family that began in Ripley, Tennessee and would eventually transition to Dyersburg, Tennessee where they would watch their family grow personally, spiritually and blossom into their own careers and familial growth. Ronnie was proudest of his membership in Masonic Lodge Nathaniel 216 of Ripley TN to promote awareness of freemasonry in West Tennessee, his military service, and the family –both immediate and extended whom he felt compelled to make chuckle, offer advice or outright marvel.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his mother, Bertha; father Jim. He’s survived by his wife Annie (Chaney) Pierce, daughters Jackie Pierce (Honey), Camisha (Kareem) Duffy and Jennifer (Greg) Archer, sons Gregory (Brandy) Montgomery, Michael (Tressa) Pierce, and Christopher Pierce as well as grandchildren Zaria Pierce, Nyjah Montgomery, Kyle

Bridges, Faith Montgomery, Jykeilan Montgomery, Darius Rogan, James Duffy and Julia Duffy.
